History of the Hall - II

The following information is contained on the Inventory Site Form from the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs.

“Historical Comment: In 1867, Charles Piggott took the contract to construct the Centreville School. It was located west of Bradford Hutchinson’s farm. When United Elastic Corp. purchased the land on which the school sat, it was moved to its present location. It is now used as a community hall.”

“Architectural Comment: Greek Revival style one storey wood frame construction. Steeply pitched roof with front facing gable. Two bay façade with offset entry. 9/6 windows on sides and 6/6 windows in front. Side windows have flat hoods. Modern additions in front and rear. Front facing addition is one storey front facing porch.”

“History of Building:
Centreville School 1867 to 1959
Centreville Community Club 1959 to 1960
Moved to Present Location 1960
Centrelea Community Club 1960 to 1993
Centrelea Community Club 1993 to 2011”

“Comments on Historical Associations:
School house has been thoroughly painted. New Blinds, new maps, now globe and a Grade B teacher in the person of Mr. Ingram Oaks of Albany.” [Bridgetown Monitor January 28, 1891.]
